In Britain today, around 20 per cent of heterosexual couples and 70 per cent of same-sex couples first meet online through dating websites. While more of these relationships are turning into marriages, a recent study has revealed that the divorce rate is three times higher than that of couples who meet in more traditional ways such as through work or friends. A study of more than 4,000 couples found that relationships were far more stable if couples met in traditional ways such as introductions by friends or through work, hobbies or socialising.
